Lila Kightlinger delivered a performance for the ages on Monday, powering the Meadville Bulldogs to an 8-4 non-region softball victory over Maplewood. The standout player was a force on both sides of the ball, launching a home run and driving in six RBIs at the plate while also dominating from the pitcher's circle with 11 strikeouts.
Kightlinger's efforts were bolstered by teammates Sofie Pierce, who added two runs, an RBI, and a double, and Addyson Kregel, who scored twice. For the Maplewood Tigers, Brianna Kope contributed two RBIs and a double, while Jorja Holeva recorded seven strikeouts in the circle.
The win keeps Meadville's perfect start intact at 3-0 as they gear up for a key Region 6 clash today against Erie. Maplewood (2-1) will look to rebound on the road against Conneaut on Wednesday.
In other local action, the Oil City softball team secured a nail-biting 7-6 win over Lakeview. Hope Harriett led the charge with three runs scored, two doubles, and an RBI, also striking out eight from the mound. The Oil City baseball team, however, fell 14-4 to Sharon in a Region 2 matchup.
