In a dominant Region 2 performance, the Cambridge Springs softball team defeated Maplewood 14-3 on Tuesday, but the real story was the history made by Jaydan Simmons. The Blue Devils' star slugger smashed two home runs, bringing her career total to 11 and breaking the school's all-time home run record. Simmons also drove in five runs, added a double, and scored once, cementing her legacy as one of the program's greatest hitters.
"Jaydan has put in countless hours to achieve this goal. I am extremely proud of her," said Cambridge Springs head coach Angie Mumford, highlighting the dedication behind the milestone.
Simmons wasn't alone in the offensive explosion. Morgan Dunton contributed two doubles and two RBIs, while Quinn Eaglen, Bridget Bullock, and Jada Murawski each crossed the plate twice. On the mound, Kayla Crawford was electric, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while allowing just three runs. For Maplewood, Ehvinn Post and Jorja Holeva scored the Tigers' runs, with Holeva also notching a double.
Cambridge Springs (10-6 overall, 8-2 region) now turns its attention to a non-region regular-season finale at Grove City on Thursday at 4 p.m. Maplewood (6-12, 4-6) will host Franklin for a non-region contest on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
In other Region 6 action, Titusville crushed Warren 20-0 in a three-inning mercy-rule rout. Pitcher Kylie Crocker was untouchable, tossing a no-hitter with five strikeouts. Offensively, Jordan Wynn launched a home run and drove in three runs, while Nora Lesko, Crocker, Octavia Popescu, and Baileigh Greer each scored three times. Josie Peden added three RBIs as Titusville (11-6, 9-5 region) prepares to host Conneaut for a non-region season finale on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, Meadville suffered a heartbreaking 10-9 loss to General McLane, falling in the seventh inning. Grace Curtiss led the way with two runs, two RBIs, and a double, while Sofee Pierce scored twice and drove in a run. Addyson Kregel also crossed the plate twice, and Olivia Carpin contributed two RBIs and a run in the narrow defeat.
