Antonio Chol, the much-maligned 6-foot-9 Lobos wing who struggled hitting shots the second half of the season, has entered his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Chol, who was a junior college All-America selection in 2025 and arguably the highest profile recruit of the first roster UNM Lobos coach Eric Olen put together last spring when taking the job, started 32 of the 37 games he played for the Lobos, averaging 7.7 points (sixth on the team), 2.9 rebounds and shot 32.0% from 3-point range.
He started his career at Big Ten Rutgers, then played in junior college at Garden City (Kansas) Community College, where he averaged 19.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
At UNM, he hit at least one 3-pointer in the first 21 games of the season — the last player in the Mountain West conference to hit a 3-pointer in every game to that point. He was 44-of-120 from 3-point range at that point of the season (36.7%). But he went 16-of-66 from 3-point range from that point on (24.2%) and he wasn’t able to overcome the shooting struggles in other areas of his game, growing to frustration for both the player on the court and the fans in the stands.
It was Chol, however, who approached his head coach about bringing him off the bench as the team went into the postseason, a big boost for UNM with Uriah Tennete taking on the starters role.
Chol has one year of playing eligibility remaining.
