One night after losing to Stevenson, the Chargers bounced back with a 7-3 win over Franklin.

Resilience is the name of the game for the Livonia Churchill softball team.

After a tough loss to Stevenson the night before, the Chargers bounced back in a big way on May 6, taking down rival Franklin with a decisive 7-3 victory. It was the kind of bounce-back performance that defines championship-caliber teams—and right now, the stakes couldn't be higher.

Weather delays forced Churchill to face two of its biggest rivals on back-to-back nights, and with all three teams jockeying for position in both the City championship and the Kensington Lakes Activities Association-East title race, every pitch mattered.

Churchill came into the matchup knowing the importance of the moment. After Stevenson handed Franklin its first league loss on April 22 and then topped Churchill 9-2 on May 5, the Chargers found themselves in a must-win spot. A five-run explosion in the second inning proved to be the difference, lifting Churchill to a 7-3 win and keeping their championship hopes alive.

"For them to come back today after losing here last night, where everyone is in the same boat, I thought they responded very well," said Chargers coach Abe Vinitski. "It was a big win for us, and it puts us in a spot for Saturday where we control everything we need to control."

The win sets up an exciting weekend ahead. All three teams—Churchill, Franklin, and Stevenson—will face off in the annual City tournament on May 9, and with just one game separating them in the standings, bragging rights and a league lead are on the line. The tournament was originally scheduled to be hosted by Madonna University, but when a double-booking forced a last-minute change, Churchill stepped up to host all six games at their home field.

Home-field advantage didn't help the Chargers against Stevenson, but it certainly paid off against Franklin. Now, they're hoping the friendly confines will give them an edge once again as they look to finish the tournament strong and take control of the East division.

With the postseason approaching and rivalries heating up, Churchill is proving that resilience—and a little home-field magic—can go a long way.
