Liverpool have made a firm decision not to sign a replacement for Hugo Ekitike during the summer transfer window, despite the striker facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The French forward ruptured his Achilles tendon against Paris Saint-Germain last month and underwent surgery shortly after. He is not expected to return to action until January 2026 at the earliest, a blow that also rules him out of this summer's World Cup.
While Ekitike's debut season has been cut short, the Reds are standing pat in the transfer market. According to The Telegraph, Liverpool have no plans to invest in another striker after their significant spending on both Ekitike and Alexander Isak. That commitment remains firm even as Isak—the club's record signing—has managed just eight Premier League starts in the 2025/26 campaign due to his own injury struggles.
The club's medical staff are confident that Ekitike will return to his pre-injury form following successful surgery. In the meantime, Liverpool will look to their existing options to support Isak during the opening months of next season. Florian Wirtz has previously been deployed as a false nine, while the club is expected to target a versatile wide-forward capable of playing across the frontline.
There's also promise from within the academy ranks. Twenty-year-old Jayden Danns has already scored three goals in 10 senior appearances, while 19-year-old Keyrol Figueroa—a US youth international—has impressed at the U-21 level with 12 goals in 16 games.
For now, Liverpool are betting on recovery and development over a quick fix in the transfer market.
