Liverpool's search for a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah has hit a significant roadblock, with the club now reportedly out of the running for one of their primary targets. The Egyptian superstar, who has been the heartbeat of Liverpool's attack for years, is expected to depart Anfield at the end of the season, leaving a massive void in the squad.

Salah's final campaign in a red shirt has been far from his best, with just seven Premier League goals to his name. While much of this dip can be attributed to the tactical demands placed on him by manager Arne Slot, there's a sense that even the Egyptian King could have delivered more. With his contract set to expire and the club allowing him to leave on a free transfer, the race to find his replacement has become a top priority for Liverpool's recruitment team.

Among the names linked with a move to Merseyside was Dario Osorio, a 22-year-old Danish winger who seemed to tick all the right boxes. Young, talented, and with a price tag of around £17 million, Osorio appeared to be a perfect fit for Liverpool's strategy of signing high-potential players at reasonable costs. His ability to play across the forward line made him an attractive option for a side that has struggled to find consistent goal-scoring form this season.

However, according to transfer insider Ben Jacobs, Liverpool's hopes of landing Osorio have faded. Writing for GiveMeSport, Jacobs revealed that "multiple Premier League clubs" have entered the race, with Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, and Everton all making approaches to the Danish club. The Premier League is described as Osorio's "most likely" destination, but Liverpool are notably absent from the list of suitors.

This development leaves Liverpool's recruitment team with some work to do. The Reds' forward line has been one of the weakest areas of the squad this term, and if they hope to compete for silverware next season, they'll need attackers who can consistently find the back of the net. While Osorio's potential was undeniable, Liverpool will now have to turn their attention to other targets as they prepare for life after Salah.
