Liverpool's midfield is in desperate need of a shake-up this season. The Reds have underperformed across the board, with key midfielders failing to live up to expectations. Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch have been the biggest disappointments, with Mac Allister even facing exit rumors. While Liverpool's midfield is technically the most stacked area of the squad, it's clear that change is needed—and some tough decisions are on the horizon.
Several midfielders have been linked with a move to Anfield this summer, and now, it looks like the club is finally closing in on one of them. Enter Lamine Camara—a name that might not ring a bell for most Liverpool fans, but one that could soon become very familiar.
The 22-year-old Senegalese midfielder has been a standout for AS Monaco this season, racking up five goal contributions and helping his team push for European football. While his natural position is as a defensive midfielder, Monaco manager Sebastien Pocognoli has often deployed him further up the pitch as a central midfielder. Either way, Camara has established himself as one of Ligue 1's top midfielders this year—and Liverpool are taking notice.
"Lamine Camara seems to be a target for Liverpool," Bence Bocsak said on the Anfield Watch Podcast. "He's someone who Liverpool like, and he brings a lot of qualities to what Liverpool need. And what is it that Liverpool need? I think right now, looking at the midfield, Liverpool need intensity. They've lacked that intensity a lot, and they don't really have many fast runners in midfield—apart from Dominik Szoboszlai, but he's been playing right-back."
Bocsak later revisited Liverpool's interest in Camara, adding: "Lamine Camara, on the other hand, could come to fruition. He is exactly that type of midfielder who can cover so much distance, he's very quick, and he's very good at anticipating where the ball is going to go."
With Liverpool's midfield struggling for pace and energy, Camara could be the spark they need. If the Reds can get this deal done, it might just be the first step toward a much-needed midfield revamp.
