Liverpool are preparing for life after Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian King, now 33, is set to depart Anfield at the end of the current season—a year earlier than expected after his £400k-per-week, two-year contract extension was reportedly cut short following a disagreement with manager Arne Slot. This puts Salah in full control of his next move, while Liverpool scramble to find a worthy successor.
Slot is prioritizing one-on-one quality out wide in the summer transfer window, with improvements needed on both flanks. Names like Bazoumana Toure and Bradley Barcola have been floating around, but one target stands above the rest: Yan Diomande.
The 19-year-old Ivorian sensation has been turning heads since joining RB Leipzig from Spanish side Leganes for just £18m in summer 2025. In the Bundesliga, Diomande has exploded onto the scene with 12 goals, showcasing the kind of pace, skill, and versatility that has put him on the radar of Europe's elite. Able to play on either wing, he fits Liverpool's needs perfectly.
But Leipzig won't let him go cheaply. With Diomande under contract until 2030, the German club sees him as a €100m (£87m) asset—and they're not ruling out keeping him for another season. Trusted Liverpool reporter Dominic King has confirmed the club's interest but notes that the price tag must drop before sporting director Richard Hughes makes a move.
"Yan Diomande, the €100m-rated teenager at RB Leipzig, is being tracked carefully," King reported for the Telegraph. "Liverpool have done due diligence and spoken to the Ivory Coast international’s advisors, but that is only standard procedure—no decision has been made about launching a move, particularly not at that huge valuation."
With Liverpool already spending big last summer—£125m on Alexander Isak and £116m on Florian Wirtz—this summer's budget may hinge on negotiating a more reasonable fee for the young star. For now, the Reds are watching, waiting, and hoping the price comes down.
