Liverpool's academy is buzzing with talent, and one of its brightest young stars has just made a huge decision that's turning heads. Keyrol Figueroa, the 19-year-old Reds prospect, has officially announced a change in his international allegiance—choosing to represent Honduras instead of the United States, following in the footsteps of his legendary father.

Figueroa, who has yet to make his senior debut for Liverpool but earned a spot on the bench for the Carabao Cup clash against Crystal Palace earlier this season, has already made waves at the youth level. He's been capped seven times for the USA's Under-20 side, showcasing his potential on the international stage. However, the pull of his father's homeland proved too strong to resist.

His dad, Maynor Figueroa, is a Honduran football icon with 181 caps and two World Cup appearances to his name. On Monday, the Honduran Football Federation (FFH) shared a video on X featuring Keyrol announcing his switch. The footage was shot at Wigan's Brick Community Stadium—a fitting location, as Maynor spent five years there and lifted the FA Cup with the club in 2013. In the clip, Keyrol describes representing Honduras as "the most beautiful thing."

The decision didn't come out of nowhere. Liverpool academy reporter Lewis Bower noted that Honduras' Director of Sport, Francis Hernandez, played a "pivotal role" in persuading the young forward to change his allegiance. Figueroa's highlights this season include a stunning hat-trick against Everton's Under-21s in October, proving he's a talent to watch both at club and international level.

This is a massive moment for Figueroa, who previously admitted he "wouldn't be happy to be playing against" his father's nation. Now, he'll proudly wear the blue and white of Honduras, carrying on a family legacy that spans generations. For Liverpool fans, it's another exciting chapter in the story of a promising academy star who's ready to make his mark on the world stage.
