Liverpool are making moves to stay ahead in the race for one of Europe's most exciting young talents—a Scandinavian starlet who's already drawing comparisons to Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard.

In recent seasons, the Reds have built a reputation for snapping up some of the brightest young prospects in British football, including Kaide Gordon, Ben Doak, Fabio Carvalho, Trey Nyoni, and Rio Ngumoha. Now, it seems they're setting their sights on the continent for their next prodigy.

According to reports from TEAMtalk, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Newcastle are all "firmly in the race" for Eirik Granaas, a midfielder for Norwegian club Fredrikstad FK. The teenager only turned 16 last month—born in March 2010, which means he was just four months old when Roy Hodgson took charge at Anfield and 15 months old when Jordan Henderson joined the club. To put that in perspective: he wasn't even born when Liverpool last won the Premier League.

Despite his age, Granaas has already made 13 senior appearances and featured in a Europa League qualifier last summer. He also briefly held the record as the youngest player in Norwegian top-flight history—a record he took from Ødegaard himself. His rapid rise has naturally drawn comparisons to the Arsenal playmaker, and the buzz around his potential is growing fast.

Fredrikstad teammate Simen Rafn has been full of praise, calling Granaas a player with "fantastic ability" and a strong mentality. "He will be at the top," Rafn told VG Sport. "With the right attitude, he can get as far as he wants."

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also reportedly keeping tabs on the young midfielder, so Liverpool will need to move quickly if they want to secure his signature. For now, the race is wide open—and the Reds are right in the mix.
