Bryson DeChambeau has been one of the few bright spots for LIV Golf in recent weeks, and the Crushers captain has made it clear he wants to stay. But with the league's future hanging in the balance—especially as Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund reportedly plans to pull its support—the big question is whether a new deal can actually get done.
LIV Golf is funded through the rest of the year, but the decision to postpone its June event in New Orleans has only fueled speculation. That uncertainty has put players like DeChambeau and Jon Rahm under the microscope. For DeChambeau, the stakes are especially high: his contract expires at the end of the season, and he's reportedly seeking a staggering $500 million to sign on again.
For a while, it looked like DeChambeau might be keeping his options open. Reports surfaced that his management team met with PGA Tour officials during The Masters to explore a potential return. But then DeChambeau himself threw cold water on that narrative, saying he's hopeful about extending his stay with LIV.
Despite all the turmoil, Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard believes there's still a path for DeChambeau to commit to the league. "They could certainly roll out the same program that they did earlier this year when Brooks Koepka came back to the PGA Tour," Hoggard said on the Golf Channel Podcast. "I'm not sure how that lands with some of the membership."
Hoggard also touched on the broader reality facing LIV's roster. "Let's say it's 52 players and they're all looking for a possible exit strategy—I think that's a fair conversation," he explained. "If you're in any line of work and you think you might be coming to the end professionally, you'd start looking at other avenues. In this case, most of those 52 players are going to have to earn their way back, just like Patrick Reed did."
For now, DeChambeau remains the face of LIV's hope, but whether that hope translates into a blockbuster contract—or a quiet departure—is anyone's guess.
