Fifth-round draft pick Keith Abney II is drawing attention as a rookie who could made a big impact in 2026.

The Detroit Lions' 2025 draft class is already generating buzz, and one name rising above the rest is fifth-round cornerback Keith Abney II. NFL.com analyst Gennaro Filice recently named the Arizona State product as Detroit's sleeper pick, highlighting his potential to make an immediate impact in the secondary.

Selected at No. 157 overall, Abney may not jump off the page with elite speed or size—standing 5-foot-10 and weighing 187 pounds—but his playing style speaks volumes. "He plays with an endearing chip on his shoulder, providing physicality and premium ball production," Filice notes. In two seasons as a starter for the Sun Devils, Abney racked up 21 pass deflections and five interceptions, primarily lining up as an outside corner. However, his best fit at the pro level could come in the nickel role, where his tenacity and instincts can shine.

In a league where cornerbacks face constant injury risks, Abney's opportunity could come sooner than later. Our own Erik Schlitt breaks down his gritty approach: "Feisty in press man coverage, Abney makes you fight to get past him. He can get too physical at times—13 penalties in the last two seasons—but he's actively working on that. His ball skills and competitive nature help him battle for catches, and as a tackler, he shows strength and a finisher's mentality." That mindset fits perfectly with the Lions' defensive identity.

Meanwhile, Lions fans are buzzing about more than just rookies. Over on The Feed, user 4DBark coined the term "Post-Traumatic Lions Disorder" amid discussions of a new defensive scheme, while the team's social media team had fun quizzing new tackle Blake Miller on—you guessed it—Blake Miller. And running back Jahmyr Gibbs brought good vibes to Detroit sports, attending the Pistons' playoff win on Tuesday night. If superstition holds, fans hope he keeps showing up.
