Lexi Thompson is embracing a new rhythm on and off the course. The newlywed and major champion has traded her full-time tour schedule for a more selective approach, and she's set to bring that focused energy to the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give.
At 31, with nearly two decades of professional golf under her belt, Thompson made the deliberate choice to step back from the grind of weekly competition. "It was time," she explains. "I wanted more balance in my life. This journey has been incredible, but after getting married, I'm thinking about settling down, starting a family, and being present for the moments that matter most. Protecting that balance has been huge for my mindset."
Now, instead of chasing every event, Thompson carefully selects where she plays. "I know which courses suit my game and what fits my schedule," she says. "But honestly, it comes down to how I'm feeling. I won't tee it up unless I truly believe I can win."
One stop that always makes the cut? The Meijer LPGA Classic at Blythefield Country Club, running June 18-21. And for good reason. Thompson won here in 2015 and has consistently been a contender, racking up multiple top-five finishes. The event has a special place in her heart—not just for the leaderboard success, but for its mission. Since its inception 12 years ago, the tournament has raised over $13 million for local food pantries, with a goal of adding $1.5 million this year.
"Seeing the direct impact is really special," Thompson says. "This is one of the most beloved stops on tour. The fans, the community, the way Meijer listens to players and constantly improves—it makes you feel so welcome. We're all in it together, and that's what makes this week unforgettable."
For fans and fellow competitors, Thompson's selective schedule only raises the stakes. When she shows up, she's ready to contend—and at Blythefield, she's proven time and again that she knows how to rise to the occasion.
