Welcome back to Let's Argue, where our own Mark Gunnels dives into the hottest takes, boldest predictions, and most unpopular opinions from Kansas City Chiefs fans everywhere.

This year's draft class has plenty of reasons for optimism, but let's be real—this team might still be a year away from true Super Bowl contention. I can easily see a 7, 8, or 9-win season, with 10 or 11 wins being the absolute best-case scenario. The AFC West isn't an untouchable gauntlet—Denver had a great year, but Bo Nix is coming off a serious injury, and as long as Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are together, expecting last season to be the norm rather than the exception feels like the real hot take.

That said, Kansas City made a major upgrade at arguably its biggest weakness by adding running back Kenneth Walker. He's easily the best backfield mate Mahomes has had since Kareem Hunt's early days in 2017 and 2018. The defense also got a nice retool through both the draft and free agency.

But here's the take I'm really standing by: Cyrus Allen is going to surprise people. I love his ability to separate. For a fifth-round pick, this feels like tremendous value. As talented as Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy are, neither has consistently proven they can beat physical press-man coverage yet. Allen brings real separation ability both outside and in the slot. The only question is opportunity—Reid has a history of easing rookie receivers along (remember how few snaps Jalen Royals got last year as a fourth-rounder?). But from a pure talent standpoint, Allen has the tools to carve out a role sooner than most expect.

Now, I wasn't thrilled with the R. Mason Thomas pick over Zion Young. At the time, I was convinced the Chiefs were going with Young—his frame fits exactly what Steve Spagnuolo looks for off the edge, and the local ties to Mizzou made it feel like a lock. That said, I actually respect Kansas City going a different direction. Sometimes the best draft moves are the ones you don't see coming.
