Lehman High School's baseball season faced potential cancellation this week amid a bullying scandal that has rocked the program. Following an initial decision by Hays CISD to forfeit the Lobos' final four District 25-5A games, the district has reversed course after significant pushback from the community.

The team will now proceed with a two-game series against both Rouse and Hays, allowing the season to continue for players not implicated in the ongoing investigation. Friday's scheduled game against Liberty Hill, however, remains forfeited.

The situation stems from allegations that have led to the suspension of 10 Lehman students and placed one staff member on paid administrative leave. The Hays County Sheriff's Department is investigating the reports, which were first detailed by the American-Statesman.

In a statement explaining the reversal, Hays CISD chief communications officer Tim Savoy emphasized the district's desire to avoid penalizing uninvolved athletes. "We want parents to know that we hear them and agree that students not implicated in any potential wrongdoing should not be penalized when we can help it," Savoy wrote. The decision was aided by a review of video evidence, though that footage has not been made public.

On the field, the Lobos face an uphill battle with a 5-20 overall record (3-7 in district). Despite sitting seventh in the standings, the team remains mathematically alive for a playoff spot, adding a layer of high-stakes drama to their final, tumultuous series.
