Leeds United are reportedly setting their sights on Dynamo Dresden's defensive midfielder Kofi Amoako as a potential summer signing, with manager Daniel Farke looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. According to German outlet Bild, as relayed by Sport Witness, the 20-year-old German U21 international has caught the eye since his move from VfL Wolfsburg in July 2025.

Amoako has quickly made a name for himself in the 2. Bundesliga, racking up 30 league appearances this season and logging over 2,000 minutes on the pitch. His stats tell the story of a combative, high-energy player: averaging two tackles, nearly four duels won, and 2.7 recoveries per game. That kind of grit is exactly what Farke's midfield could use.

But Leeds aren't alone in the hunt. Union Berlin, Hamburg SV, and Mainz 05 have all registered interest, setting up a competitive race for the youngster. Dresden currently value Amoako at around €2 million, though Bild notes that British interest could drive the price up—pointing to Hansa Rostock's €6 million sale of Ryan Naderi to Rangers as a benchmark for Premier League inflation. Wolfsburg also hold a 10% sell-on clause from his £200,000 departure last year.

At just 20, Amoako reads the game well and wins duels consistently. However, his interception rate of 0.6 per game suggests he sometimes reacts rather than anticipates, and his possession recoveries in the final third (0.2 per game) indicate he's still developing his attacking presence—an area that matters in Farke's system.

Still, some fans might question whether this is the right move. With Hidemasa Morita available on a free transfer this summer—his Sporting CP contract expires in June 2026—signing Amoako feels like unnecessary spending. Morita brings Champions League experience, composure on the ball, and is ready to contribute immediately. Leeds reportedly offered €10 million for him last summer, so landing him for nothing would be a massive bargain compared to chasing a raw talent from the German second tier.
