Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris addressed the media ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash against Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium (kick-off 3 PM BST), sharing insights on team growth, personal recognition, and maintaining focus during a demanding season.
Fresh off a Manager of the Season nomination, Le Bris expressed pride in the honor, emphasizing it reflects the collective effort. "It's a collective achievement. No matter the result, it highlights the quality of the group and the season overall," he said. "The Premier League is a rollercoaster with highs and lows, but at the end of the season, this kind of recognition is very important for us."
Reflecting on the team's evolution, Le Bris highlighted progress despite a recent draw against Manchester United. "I'm really pleased with how we've closed the season. Even without a win, we created three big chances and conceded only one late goal. We've shown improvements in many areas—still strong out of possession with the ability to press high and protect our goal. It's not just about key moments; we're working hard, and the squad is getting better."
He acknowledged the physical toll of the Premier League, especially late in the season. "Against Manchester United, it was demanding. We controlled main parts of the game, but there was a drop in decision-making quality and composure, which gave them opportunities. At this level, it's about giving 100% all the time. When you drop, you feel the threat immediately. It's not easy to maintain that over 100 minutes at the end of the season."
With European qualification potentially on the horizon, Le Bris kept his focus narrow. "We want to win the next game. If you start to look too far ahead, it's a distraction. The Premier League demands full attention every match—we'll take it one step at a time."
