Lazio's goalkeeping crisis has deepened, forcing the club into a desperate search for reinforcements. With first-choice Ivan Provedel already sidelined for the season, a torn ACL for third-string Alessio Furlanetto has left manager Maurizio Sarri with only one senior keeper, Edoardo Motta.
In response, the Biancocelesti are attempting a dramatic return for a familiar face: 35-year-old free agent Alessandro Berardi. A product of Lazio's youth academy, Berardi never made a senior appearance for the club but brings a wealth of experience from spells at clubs like Hellas Verona.
However, this emergency signing is hitting a significant bureaucratic wall. Italian football rules prohibit signing free agents after March 31st. Lazio must now petition Serie A for a special exemption, arguing their situation constitutes a genuine state of emergency, though club officials are reportedly pessimistic about their chances.
This leaves Sarri potentially relying on youth. Teenager Giacomo Giacomone has already been promoted to the bench. If the Berardi deal falls through, another academy prospect will likely be called up, putting immense pressure on a depleted squad during a critical phase of the season.
