Arsenal legend Lauren believes the Gunners have both the mentality and firepower to seize a defining week—starting with a Champions League showdown against Atlético Madrid—and ultimately clinch the Premier League title.
The former right-back, who won five major trophies in seven seasons under Arsène Wenger, was a key member of the 2004 Invincibles and part of the Arsenal side that reached the 2006 Champions League final. Now, he sees echoes of that era in the current squad's resurgence on Europe's biggest stage.
"It brings back great memories, especially the semi-final win against Villarreal," Lauren recalls. "Unfortunately, I couldn't play the final, but the team did so well to get there. For tonight, we have to control the emotional factor."
With the tie level at 1-1 after the first leg in Spain, Lauren insists composure will be the difference against Diego Simeone's battle-hardened Atlético side. "If you control the emotions, you can express yourself. The team will understand the tactics and play with freedom."
He points to Arsenal's attacking depth as a major reason for optimism, with several stars hitting top form at exactly the right moment. "I always say that if the players in the final third reach this stage of the competition at their highest level, we have a huge chance," he explains. "Viktor Gyökeres is scoring goals, Bukayo Saka is back and finding the net, and you have Trossard and Martinelli, too. Eberechi Eze has been a fantastic signing—he played very well against Atlético in the first leg. I believe these players have arrived at the best possible moment. We have a big chance to win tonight and achieve our goal by the end of the season."
Having played in Spain himself, Lauren knows the tactical test that awaits. "Atlético Madrid is going to be a very tough game. They are dangerous away from home because they play on the counter and know how to frustrate you. But if Arsenal stay disciplined and let their quality shine, this could be the week that defines their season."
