After Mother Nature washed out the opening night at Anderson Speedway, the make-up date is set for this Saturday—and fans are in for a treat with a packed racing card and a special $8 adult ticket price.
The action comes just ahead of the 78th running of the prestigious Unified Group Services Little 500 presented by the Ed Martin Automotive Group, making this Saturday a perfect warm-up for racing enthusiasts.
Headlining the event is the Vern's Concrete Late Model division, where Ryder VanAlst captured his first career win in dramatic fashion. VanAlst overtook Cassten Everidge late in the race, while visiting driver Terry Fisher Jr. rounded out the top three. Everidge, not to be outdone, had already claimed his first Anderson Speedway victory in the Late Models' opening event, with Nathan Greene and VanAlst completing the podium.
In the Vore's Welding & Steel Street Stocks, Anderson's Andrew Cook turned heads by breaking the track record with a blistering lap of 13.662 seconds, shattering Josh Poore's 2017 mark of 13.664 seconds. Cook followed that up with a strong showing last weekend, finishing third behind winner Andrew Teepe and runner-up Poore. Poore, a veteran of the division, also notched his 52nd career win in the first feature race, with Dalton Conner and Jimmy Kirby II claiming second and third.
The Front Wheel Drive class delivered its own share of drama. Gaigue Hulett earned his first career feature win last week after Caleb Southerland and Austin Pursley were disqualified in post-race tech. Nick Warner and Dylan Hoppes completed the podium. Southerland had previously won the division's opening feature.
Gates open for qualifying at 6 p.m., with racing action starting at 7:30 p.m. In addition to the $8 adult tickets, children ages 6 to 12 get in for just $5, and kids under five are free. It's a budget-friendly night of high-octane racing that no gearhead should miss.
