Apr. 17—Lapwai High School alum Kase Wynott is taking his talents back to the Gem State. Wynott, who was a part of the Washington State men's basketball program for the past two seasons, announced his commitment to the Idaho Vandals with an Instagram post Friday. Kase Wynott is coming home. The former Lapwai High School phenom and Idaho's all-time leading high school scorer has announced his transfer from Washington State to the University of Idaho, bringing his journey full circle.

Wynott made the announcement via Instagram on Friday, posting photos of himself in black and white Vandals jerseys with the caption, "Let's do it @vandalhoops #committed." The move marks a significant homecoming for the three-time state champion, who set the Idaho high school boys' basketball scoring record with 2,962 points and was named the 2024 Gatorade Player of the Year.

After two seasons in Pullman, where he appeared in 29 games, Wynott enters a Vandals program riding high. Idaho, under coach Alex Pribble, made its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1990 this past season. Wynott will look to carve out a larger role in Moscow, especially after the Vandals lost Big Sky Freshman of the Year Jackson Rasmussen to the transfer portal.

The transition will be a familiar one. Wynott will reunite with former Lapwai teammate Titus Yearout, a senior guard for the Vandals. This connection could provide immediate chemistry as Wynott aims to contribute to Idaho's rising program.

For Washington State, Wynott's departure is part of a major roster overhaul under coach David Riley, with ten Cougars entering the portal this spring. The Cougars have been active in replenishing their squad, adding several transfers including Wake Forest point guard Sebastian Akins.

For Idaho fans and basketball followers in the Gem State, Wynott's return is a major storyline. It brings a local legend back to his roots, offering him a fresh start and the Vandals a player with proven championship pedigree and deep local ties.
