Teammates duel after dominating weekend, with Langdon taking Top Fuel win.

In a weekend that belonged entirely to Kalitta Motorsports, the NHRA Southern Nationals delivered a thrilling all-Kalitta final that had fans on the edge of their seats. Teammates Shawn Langdon and Doug Kalitta dominated the Top Fuel category from the first qualifying run to the final elimination, proving why they're one of the most formidable duos in drag racing.

The fireworks started early when Langdon made history on the first day of qualifying at South Georgia Motorsports Park, clocking the fastest Top Fuel run ever recorded at an eye-popping 345 mph. Not to be outdone, Kalitta responded the next day by securing the No. 1 qualifying position with a blistering 3.657-second elapsed time. With both drivers firing on all cylinders, a teammate showdown in the final round seemed inevitable.

When the moment arrived, Langdon's crew chief Brian Husen laid out a simple game plan: match what Kalitta was expected to run, then let the drivers settle it on the track. "I didn't particularly like that scenario because I wasn't really hitting the tree well today," Langdon admitted after the race, referring to his reaction time off the starting line. But the numbers tell a different story—Langdon got the jump with a .070-second reaction time to Kalitta's .074, and he never looked back.

Crossing the finish line with a 3.808-second pass at 333.16 mph, Langdon secured his second victory of the season and the 24th of his career. Kalitta finished with a 3.954 e.t. at 314.61 mph, a respectable run that just wasn't enough to catch his teammate on this day.

For Langdon, the challenge wasn't just beating his teammate—it was dialing back the speed after experiencing that historic 345 mph run. "You get the little taste of the 345 and... you gotta kind of get a little ego check where you just slow it down a little bit," he explained. "You have to understand you have to make changes and adapt to what the race track's gonna be able to give you."

The track itself presented its own set of challenges, particularly after rain soaked the area for most of Saturday. The left lane proved especially tricky, requiring a delicate touch. "There were some things we found out about the track throughout the weekend," Langdon noted. "Certain little areas that we had to tiptoe. It was kind of like a tiptoe haul ass. It was just a little bit tricky."

For fans of NHRA racing, this weekend was a masterclass in teamwork, adaptability, and raw speed—the kind of performance that makes Top Fuel drag racing one of motorsports' most exhilarating spectacles.
