The Los Angeles Lakers have made one thing crystal clear as they head into the offseason: their championship aspirations revolve around the star trio of Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves, and LeBron James.

"Of course, we want that core to be back together," Lakers head coach JJ Redick stated firmly on Tuesday morning at the team's practice facility in El Segundo, California.

Fresh off a disappointing second-round sweep at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Lakers are now faced with the challenge of retooling around their three stars. While the team's playoff exit stung, it wasn't without context—Dončić was sidelined with a Grade 2 left hamstring injury, and Reaves missed the first four playoff games due to a Grade 2 left oblique strain. Despite those setbacks, general manager Rob Pelinka praised the squad's resilience and work ethic throughout the season.

"We do have the optionality to look at all those different avenues to get better," Pelinka explained. "The archetype of the roster that we want is going to be retrofitted around Luka and the things he needs. Clearly, he's that leader and that player for the future that we want to build the right way around."

As the front office and coaching staff begin to "deconstruct" the 2025-26 season, Pelinka emphasized the need for fresh talent through the NBA Draft, free agency, and trades, along with a revamped player development system. The message from the Lakers' brass is clear: this core has the talent to compete, but the supporting cast needs an upgrade.

For Lakers fans, the offseason promises to be a pivotal one. With Dončić as the centerpiece of the future, Reaves as the rising star, and James still defying age, the foundation is there. Now, it's about building around it the right way.
