Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Thunder gradually got away from the Lakers.

The Lakers entered Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Oklahoma City Thunder with high hopes, but the defending champions quickly dashed those dreams, rolling to a commanding 108-90 victory at Paycom Center.

The Purple and Gold came out competitive, trailing by just five points after the first quarter. But the Thunder shifted gears early in the second, pushing the lead to double digits. From there, Los Angeles never mounted a serious rally, as the game gradually slipped away.

Defensively, the Lakers weren't terrible. They held reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to 18 points, forcing him into seven turnovers with aggressive perimeter traps. Oklahoma City's scoring output was modest. The real problem? Offensive struggles. L.A. shot just 41.7% from the field and a cold 33% from three-point range (10-of-30). They attempted only 13 free throws—a season low for a team that thrives at the line. Turnovers also haunted them: 18 giveaways led to 20 Thunder points, a glaring issue heading into this series.

Rui Hachimura provided a bright spot, scoring 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-6 from deep. He added two rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block in 37 minutes. However, he went scoreless in the critical second quarter when the game got away.

Marcus Smart showed aggressiveness, constantly looking for his shot, but couldn't find the mark. He finished with 12 points on 4-of-15 shooting (2-of-8 from three) in 32 minutes, contributing little else on a night when the Lakers needed more.

Game 2 is Thursday at Paycom Center, and the Lakers face a must-win situation if they hope to keep this series alive. For fans, it's time to gear up—literally and figuratively—as L.A. looks to bounce back in a hostile environment.
