The Lakers are set to have a big offseason to help contend for years to come. Due to a money shortage with the Thunder, LA has a way to poach someone who averaged a near double-double this season.

The Los Angeles Lakers are staring down elimination at the hands of the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, but the real game might just be getting started this summer. With their season potentially ending soon, the Lakers are already plotting a major roster overhaul—and one intriguing target stands out as a perfect fit for their superstar duo.

This offseason, the Lakers will have more cap space than they've seen in years, and the mission is clear: build a championship-caliber team around Luka Dončić. As Silver Screen and Roll's Bryan Toporek notes, "The Lakers have a megastar in Dončić and a unique amount of potential cap space for a title hopeful. This summer will go a long way toward determining how well they can build a contender around Luka."

One glaring need? A starting-caliber center, especially if the Lakers move on from Deandre Ayton. While Jaxson Hayes is likely to stay thanks to his chemistry with Dončić, the frontcourt still needs a physical presence who can set screens, crash the boards, and finish above the rim. Enter Isaiah Hartenstein of the Thunder.

Hartenstein, who signed an $87 million contract with Oklahoma City, has been a force this season, nearly averaging a double-double while playing alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren. But here's where it gets interesting for L.A.: a "domino effect" triggered by the Thunder's failure to move up in the Draft Lottery could open the door for Hartenstein to change uniforms.

Lake Show Life's Josh Cornelissen explains the potential fit: "Hartenstein is a bruiser who could set bone-crushing screens for Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, rumbling to the rim to catch lobs and perform Gortat screens. He's a monster on the offensive glass and would gain multiple fresh possessions for the Lakers. His defense is solid and he protects the rim quite well. Landing Hartenstein would be a free agency coup."

For a team looking to maximize Dončić's playmaking and create easy buckets, a rim-running lob threat like Hartenstein could be the missing piece. And with the Thunder facing financial constraints, the Lakers may have a clear path to poach one of the league's most underrated big men. This summer, all eyes will be on L.A.'s front office to see if they can turn cap space into championship contention.
