A recent report indicates the Los Angeles Lakers will pursue a former lottery pick this summer.

The Los Angeles Lakers are gearing up for what could be a pivotal summer, and a new report suggests they're ready to go head-to-head with the Boston Celtics for a proven NBA champion.

According to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, the Lakers are expected to pursue Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon—a key piece of Denver's 2023 title run—when trade talks heat up this offseason. The 33-year-old wing, who is currently playing on a $133 million contract, could become a prime target for several win-now teams.

"Several teams are expected to contact the Nuggets as early as before the 2026 NBA Draft with immediate interest in Gordon," Siegel reported. "Teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, and Boston Celtics are among the many win-now teams Gordon would obviously fit in with as realistic trade suitors."

The timing makes sense. After another early postseason exit, the Nuggets are likely to retool their roster, and moving on from the versatile forward after five and a half seasons could be the most straightforward path to reshaping the team. For the Lakers, who are currently battling the defending-champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semifinals, adding a player of Gordon's caliber would be a clear signal of their championship intentions—whether they advance or not.

Gordon has been a reliable two-way presence this season, averaging 16.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game while shooting an impressive 49.7% from the field and 38.9% from three-point range. His dependable long-range shooting and polished slashing ability would fit seamlessly into Los Angeles' system, giving them another versatile weapon alongside their star duo.

Of course, the Celtics are no strangers to the trade market themselves, and a bidding war between two of the NBA's most storied franchises would only add to the drama. For the Lakers, the message is clear: if the Nuggets are willing to part ways with Gordon, they need to act fast. In a league where championship windows can close in an instant, landing a player of his experience and skill set could be the difference between contending and watching from home.
