LeBron James gave a reality check for Austin Reaves return back from injury. It is never easy getting thrown straight into the fire.

LeBron James didn't mince words when asked about Austin Reaves' tough shooting night against the Oklahoma City Thunder—and his message was clear: give the guy a break.

After missing nearly a month with a strained oblique, Reaves returned to the Lakers lineup during their first-round playoff series against the Houston Rockets. The timing couldn't have been tougher. He was sidelined for nine games total, including the final five of the regular season and the first four of the postseason. For any player, that's a brutal layoff. For a guard who relies on rhythm and confidence, it's even tougher.

Tuesday night's Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the defending champion Thunder was a rude awakening. Reaves shot just 3-for-16 from the field and committed a team-high four turnovers. The Lakers dropped the game, and the spotlight immediately turned to Reaves' struggles.

But LeBron, never one to let his teammates take heat unfairly, stepped in with a blunt reality check.

"He was out a month," James told reporters. "We know he's gonna make shots and make plays, but that's tough when you were out a month towards the end of the season. We're trying to fast-track him getting back on the floor and doing the things he was doing before the injury. But rightfully so, if he has some games where he's missing shots, that's part of it. His presence alone helps us, no matter what."

James understands better than anyone what it takes to return from injury and immediately face elite competition. Reaves was finishing the regular season on a strong note before the injury struck, and the Lakers are counting on him to be a key piece in their playoff run. But as LeBron pointed out, expecting instant perfection after a month off isn't realistic.

For Lakers fans—and anyone who loves the game—this is a reminder that even the best players need time to find their groove. Reaves will get there. And when he does, that shooting touch will be back. Until then, the Lakers will take his presence on the floor, even if the shots aren't falling yet.
