After the Los Angeles Lakers' final playoff game this spring, they will start to prepare in earnest for the upcoming NBA draft. Unlike last year, when they didn't control their first-round draft pick as a result of the Anthony Davis trade in 2019, they do possess their own first-round pick.
After some drawings that were done by the league to break some ties, the Lakers will have the No. 25 selection this June. They had finished with the same 53-29 record that the New York Knicks had during the regular season, but they lost their tiebreaker with New York, which will have the No. 24 pick.
It remains to be seen what type of player Los Angeles will target with this pick, or if the team will look to package it in a trade in order to upgrade its roster by taking back a player who can help right now.
According to multiple reports, L.A. is expected to pursue Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo during the offseason. Landing him would almost certainly cost L.A. the No. 25 pick this year.
