The 2026 high school baseball season in the 337 has officially come to a close, and for Lafayette-area teams, it was a bittersweet ending. Twenty-nine teams from Lafayette Parish and the surrounding areas earned their spot in the LHSAA Baseball State Tournament, but none managed to secure the coveted trip to Sulphur. This marks a sharp contrast from last year, when the area celebrated three state championship teams.

Several teams came agonizingly close, with their postseason journeys ending in the semifinal and final rounds of their respective brackets. In the Non-Select division, Rayne High School was the last local team standing. The Wolves fell to Lutcher 2-1 in the Division II semifinals series, marking their deepest playoff run in over a decade—since their state championship win back in 1993. Meanwhile, Delcambre, Erath, and Iota saw their seasons end in the quarterfinals of the Division IV and II brackets, respectively.

Over in the Select brackets, Teurlings Catholic, Catholic-N.I., St. Thomas More, Acadiana Renaissance Charter, St. Edmund, and Ascension Episcopal were the final area teams left in the hunt. The Rebels and Panthers were both chasing back-to-back state titles in Division II and Division III, but each fell short in their semifinals series, losing 2-1. The Cougars and Eagles also came up just short in the Division I and Division II semifinals, with STM losing to Brother Martin 2-1 and ARCA falling to Vandebilt Catholic 2-1. For the Eagles, this postseason run was historic—it marked their first-ever semifinals appearance in program history.

In the Class C bracket, Northside Christian was the last team standing from the area. The Warriors ended their season in the quarterfinals with a 10-2 loss to Maurepas.

While the 2026 season didn't end with a trip to Sulphur, the grit and determination shown by these Lafayette-area teams are a testament to the strength of local baseball. Fans can already look ahead to next season, hopeful that the region will once again contend for state glory.
