The Tennessee Lady Vols closed out their regular season with a tough 4-3 loss to Missouri on Saturday at Mizzou Softball Stadium in Columbia. Despite entering the game ranked No. 8 in the nation with an impressive 42-9 record (16-8 in SEC play), the Lady Vols couldn't hold off the Tigers, who improved to 28-28 overall and 9-15 in conference action.

Tennessee jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. After Ella Dodge drew a leadoff walk, Gabby Leach stepped up and delivered an RBI double to put the Lady Vols up 1-0. The momentum continued in the fourth inning when Elsa Morrison crushed a solo home run, extending the advantage to 2-0.

But Missouri refused to back down. The Tigers cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth when Linny Ramsey scored on a wild pitch. They tied the game in the fifth inning thanks to a solo home run from Abby Hay, shifting the pressure back to Tennessee.

The Lady Vols responded in the sixth inning when Sophia Knight knocked an RBI single to regain a 3-2 lead. However, Missouri answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Abby Carr's RBI single tied the game again, and a Tennessee error allowed the go-ahead run to cross the plate, making it 4-3.

On the mound, Erin Nuwer got the start for Tennessee, pitching three innings while allowing one run on five hits and three walks. She struck out four batters on 65 pitches. Karlyn Pickens (13-7) took the loss after giving up two unearned runs on two hits in one inning of relief. Sage Mardjetko also saw action out of the bullpen for the Lady Vols.

While the loss stings, Tennessee's strong regular season sets the stage for an exciting postseason run. The Lady Vols will look to regroup and bring that championship energy back to the diamond.
