Freshman phenom Katrina Scott of the Tennessee Lady Vols tennis team has been named the SEC Player of the Week, a massive honor for any player and a testament to her immediate impact in one of college tennis's toughest conferences.
Scott dominated the final week of the regular season, powering the Lady Vols to two crucial SEC victories. She delivered two straight-set singles wins over ranked opponents and was a perfect 2-0 in doubles, with each of her doubles victories clinching the critical opening point for her team.
Her week was a showcase of precision and power. In a commanding win over Ole Miss, Scott was the first Lady Vol off the court, dismantling her opponent 6-0, 6-2 behind a rock-solid 73% first-serve conversion rate. She followed that up with another decisive singles and doubles performance against LSU.
This stellar play has helped secure Tennessee a No. 8 seed and a valuable first-round bye in the upcoming SEC Tournament. Head Coach Alison Ojeda praised the freshman, stating, "We are thrilled for our program and Katrina... She's a great player and an amazing person who has whole heartedly embraced our program. There's a lot more to come."
For a freshman to earn this recognition speaks volumes about her talent and composure. It's the kind of breakthrough performance that defines a player's career and sets the stage for an exciting postseason run for the Lady Vols.
