Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovač has confirmed that left-back Ramy Bensebaini is a major doubt for Sunday's Bundesliga clash against Borussia Mönchengladbach, dealing a blow to the team's defensive options.
The Algerian international, who was in fine form last weekend with a goal and an assist in Dortmund's emphatic 4-0 victory over SC Freiburg, picked up a foot injury during that match. "Ramy Bensebaini hasn't trained since the Freiburg game because of a swollen foot," Kovač explained on Thursday. "It's unlikely he'll be ready for the weekend."
Bensebaini's absence adds to a growing injury list for the Black and Yellows. Kovač confirmed that defender Niklas Süle remains unavailable, while midfielder Felix Nmecha is still working his way back to full fitness. "Felix is on schedule but hasn't trained with the team yet," Kovač noted. "He probably won't make it for Gladbach—we'll assess him for next week's Frankfurt match."
There was more positive news regarding Karim Adeyemi, who participated in parts of Thursday's training session. "Karim is on a much better path," Kovač said, hinting at a potential return soon. However, captain Emre Can remains sidelined with an ACL injury.
In a late twist, Kovač revealed that Yan Couto and Jobe Bellingham missed training midweek due to illness, but both are expected to be fit for Sunday's trip to Gladbach. With key players missing, Dortmund will need to dig deep as they look to maintain their momentum in the Bundesliga.
