Charlotte Hornets fans have plenty of reasons to smile, and rookie standout Kon Knueppel is leading the charge with infectious optimism. The Duke product recently joined "Dale Jr. Download," hosted by NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr., to share his excitement about the team's direction—starting with head coach Charles Lee's contract extension.
"We're super pumped to have Charles Lee back and extended because we want to keep building," Knueppel said. "We want to keep building together, and I think it'll be really good that way. You just keep adding guys through the draft; we got a couple of first-round picks this year and hopefully get two more studs and keep building this thing."
Lee has been a transformative force for the Hornets, engineering a remarkable turnaround. After a 19-win season the year prior, Charlotte surged to a 44-38 record in 2025-26—a 25-game improvement that signals a new era of competitiveness in the Eastern Conference. Knueppel, who enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign, is clearly buying into the vision.
The future looks even brighter with the Hornets holding two first-round picks in the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft, positioned at No. 14 and No. 18 overall. For a young core already on the rise, adding two more talented rookies could accelerate the rebuild into a perennial playoff threat.
As Knueppel and the Hornets gear up for 2026-27, the message is clear: this team is building something special, and they're just getting started.
