The Knicks were in complete control, as they dominated the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 1 of their second round matchup on Monday night at MSG.

The New York Knicks sent a thunderous message to the rest of the NBA on Monday night, dismantling the Philadelphia 76ers 137-98 in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series at Madison Square Garden. It was a masterclass in two-way basketball, with the Knicks firing on all cylinders from the opening tip to the final buzzer.

The game started with a scare for the home crowd when star big man Karl-Anthony Towns took a hard fall on an offensive rebound attempt just minutes in. After a tense moment on the floor, Towns shook it off and stayed in the game following a timeout. However, early foul trouble—courtesy of Joel Embiid—sent Towns and Mitchell Robinson to the bench with two fouls apiece before the first quarter was even halfway done.

With Towns sidelined, the Knicks turned to their captain, Jalen Brunson, who delivered one of his signature scoring bursts. Brunson poured in nine straight points and added a slick assist to Miles McBride for a three-pointer, pulling New York to within four. OG Anunoby found his rhythm late in the quarter, scoring all seven of his first-quarter points to help the Knicks take an eight-point lead into the second.

When Towns returned to the floor in the second quarter, he wasted no time making up for lost minutes. With Embiid resting after playing the entire first quarter, Towns attacked the paint and stretched the floor, quickly pushing the Knicks' lead into double digits. The Garden crowd erupted as New York's offense clicked into high gear.

Defensively, the Knicks were stifling, forcing tough shots and limiting Philadelphia's second-chance opportunities. On the other end, it felt like the Knicks could score at will. The momentum was all in New York's favor as Brunson drilled a deep three at the halftime buzzer, sending the Knicks to the locker room with a commanding 23-point lead—their largest of the half.

Brunson was simply unstoppable in the pick-and-roll, exploiting Embiid and the 76ers' defense time and again. He scored the Knicks' final 11 points of the half, finishing the first two quarters with 27 points—the second-most in any playoff half by a Knicks player in the play-by-play era.

The third quarter offered no relief for Philadelphia. The Knicks came out of the break with the same intensity, extending their lead and putting the game well out of reach. It was a complete team effort, with contributions up and down the roster, and a statement win that sets the tone for the rest of the series. For Knicks fans, this was the kind of dominant performance that makes you believe anything is possible this postseason.
