Khamzat Chimaev is wasting no time getting back in the spotlight. Just over a month after losing the UFC middleweight title, "Borz" has been booked for his debut in Real American Freestyle (RAF) — and he's facing a familiar, controversial name.
The wrestling promotion announced Tuesday that Chimaev will square off against Dillon Danis in a catchweight bout, headlining RAF 10 on June 13 at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis. The event will stream exclusively on Fox Nation, marking a major crossover moment for the burgeoning promotion.
Chimaev suffered his first professional MMA defeat in the UFC 328 headliner, dropping a split decision to Sean Strickland on May 9 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Known for steamrolling opponents with his relentless wrestling and suffocating grappling throughout his UFC tenure, Chimaev surprisingly struggled to impose his will against Strickland. While the Chechen powerhouse was initially expected to move up to 205 pounds after the loss, his team recently revealed he's been laser-focused on securing an immediate rematch inside the Octagon.
On the other side of the mat, Dillon Danis first gained notoriety as Conor McGregor's training partner, armed with a world-class jiu-jitsu pedigree. The outspoken New York native competed twice for Bellator MMA in 2018 and 2019, and later lost an exhibition boxing match to Logan Paul. He did capture MMA middleweight gold under the Misfits Boxing banner, but most recently fell to Colby Covington via technical fall at RAF 7.
With Chimaev looking to bounce back and Danis always ready to stir the pot, this matchup promises fireworks — and plenty of drama — for a whole new audience.
