Kevin Love has never been one to shy away from tough conversations, and his latest reflections on life beyond basketball are as candid as they come. When asked about the uncertainty of his post-playing career, the five-time All-Star didn't sugarcoat his feelings. "It definitely scares me," Love admitted, opening up about a topic many athletes avoid: athletic mortality.
Over the past two years, Love says he's grappled with this reality more than in his entire two-decade career. "Everything, I feel like, brought me here for a reason," he explained, "for the greater good, for people to understand that they are enough and that they're part of a larger community."
That sense of purpose has been a game-changer for the Cleveland Cavaliers veteran. Since his public panic attack in 2017, Love has channeled his experience into something bigger than himself. The Kevin Love Fund, launched in 2018, has given him a legacy that extends far beyond the hardwood. "That has given me purpose and a legacy piece outside of basketball," he shared, "to know I'll go to that when I'm done."
But Love isn't just focusing on one thing. He's actively building a life with balance, exploring interests and hobbies that will sustain him when the final buzzer sounds on his playing career. Whether it's a potential front-office role or some other capacity with an organization, Love is preparing for a future where his identity isn't solely defined by the jersey he wears. "I won't entirely lose that sense of identity just because I'm not playing anymore," he said, offering a powerful reminder that true resilience—on and off the court—comes from finding meaning in every chapter of life.
