The Golden State Warriors shouldn't feel confident about their chances of reuniting with a 16-time All-Star.

The Golden State Warriors may want to pump the brakes on dreaming of a Kevin Durant reunion. While the idea of the 16-time All-Star returning to the Bay Area is certainly tantalizing, recent trade rumors suggest it's not in the cards—at least not anytime soon.

Durant's first stint with the Warriors was nothing short of legendary. As a top-2 scoring option in Steve Kerr's system, he helped secure two championships and two NBA Finals MVP awards. But after the 2018-19 season, he chose a new path, teaming up with Kyrie Irving on the Brooklyn Nets.

Fast forward to 2026, and the 37-year-old is still lighting it up for the Houston Rockets, averaging 26.0 points per game on an efficient 52.0% from the field and 41.3% from three-point range. However, with the Rockets falling short of a deep playoff run in Durant's first season, whispers about his future have started to surface.

For Stephen Curry and the Warriors, those whispers might be more like bad news. According to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, the Rockets have no plans to trade Durant this summer. "Internally, the Rockets hold no immediate intention of trading Durant this summer," Siegel reported. "Rafael Stone and the Rockets' front office targeted Durant with the idea of him not only elevating their championship expectations but also helping guide this young core forward."

Siegel also noted that Durant played 78 games this season—his most since the 2018-19 campaign with Golden State—and proved to be the offensive weapon Houston traded for. If this report holds true, the Rockets are far from giving up on their 6-foot-11 star after just one season. They invested in him to break through to the promised land, and they're likely to give that experiment more time.

For Warriors fans hoping for a reunion, this news is a tough pill to swallow. But for now, it looks like Durant's future remains in Houston, leaving Golden State to explore other options this summer.
