Another day, another recruiting update for Kentucky basketball head coach Mark Pope.
It’s no secret that the Big Blue Nation is frustrated with how this past season went and the current status of recruiting for UK basketball.
Kentucky has missed on several players they appeared to be “all in” on and that’s a major red flag.
However, things could turn around a bit if they land a commitment from James Madison transfer Justin McBride.
The small forward just finished his third year of college and made a massive leap playing for the Dukes, averaging over 15 points per game and shooting the basketball at a high percentage from long-range (40%) in just 27 minutes of action.
Again — Kentucky has certainly whiffed on a few players they have been after here lately but On3’s Joe Tipton believes Kentucky is in good shape with McBride.
“Sources say things are trending in the right direction for Mark Pope in this recruitment as UK is well-positioned,” Tipton said, later adding, “This recruitment sounds like it’s the Wildcats to lose.”
Landing the heavily skilled forward would be another boost to what has been a rather underwhelming offseason for Pope and his staff.
Until we get news on McBride, though, Day Two of the NFL Draft kicks off tonight on ABC, ESPN and the NFL Network starting at 7 PM ET for both the second and third round.
While it’s up in the air if Kentucky will have anyone selected tonight, some of the former players that were originally slotted as potential Day Three picks may slide up the draft board.
