Kentucky looks to secure the commitment of one of Ohio’s top offensive linemen in the 2027 class with Reed Gerken.

The race is heating up for one of Ohio's top offensive line prospects, and Kentucky Football is firmly in the mix. Reed Gerken, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound offensive tackle from Perrysburg High School, has trimmed his list to four schools ahead of a June commitment decision.

Gerken announced Sunday that Kentucky, Illinois, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin remain in contention for his services. According to 247 Sports' Riley Alberts, the 3-star lineman plans to make his college choice official on June 22. With his size and skill set, Gerken is shaping up to be a key building block for whichever program lands him.

The Wildcats have been aggressive in their pursuit. During the week of May 4, offensive line coach Cutter Leftwich and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan made the trip to Gerken's high school, underscoring Kentucky's strong interest. That kind of hands-on attention from the coaching staff could pay dividends as the decision draws near.

Gerken has a busy schedule of official visits lined up before his commitment date. He'll head to Virginia Tech on May 29, followed by Wisconsin on June 5, and then cap it off with a trip to Kentucky on June 19—just three days before he announces. That timing could be a game-changer for the Wildcats if they can make a lasting impression during that final visit.

Momentum may already be swinging Kentucky's way. On April 20, Josh Edwards of CatsPause logged a prediction that Gerken will ultimately choose the Wildcats. Currently ranked as the 50th-best offensive tackle nationally and the 20th overall prospect in Ohio by 247 Sports, Gerken represents a major priority for Kentucky's 2027 recruiting class.

As head coach Will Stein and his staff continue to build recruiting momentum, landing a player of Gerken's caliber would be a significant win—especially in a crucial offensive line cycle for the program. All eyes will be on June 22 to see if the Wildcats can seal the deal.
