The St. John's Red Storm roster is undergoing a significant transformation this offseason, with freshman guard Kelvin Odih becoming the latest player to enter the transfer portal. This move marks the sixth departure from the program this month, continuing a major roster overhaul for head coach Rick Pitino.
Odih, a former four-star recruit originally committed to West Virginia, was Pitino's sole high school signee for the 2025-26 season. His freshman year, however, was derailed by a series of unfortunate injuries. After showing flashes of his defensive potential in an August scrimmage, an ankle sprain cut his performance short. He later dealt with a pectoral injury and leg soreness, limiting him to just ten games where he averaged 1.5 points and 1.9 rebounds in limited minutes.
With Odih's departure, the Red Storm are now left with just four returning players for the 2026-27 campaign, only two of whom—Ian Jackson and Ruben Prey—were regular rotation pieces. This leaves Pitino and his staff with the massive task of filling eleven roster spots to rebuild a competitive Big East squad.
The recruiting effort is already in full swing. The program has secured a commitment from Quinn Ellis and is actively hosting a wave of transfer visitors this week, including notable names from Kentucky, Kansas State, and Toledo. With several more high-profile visits on the schedule, St. John's is poised for a pivotal week as they look to reload their roster for the challenges ahead.
