After three seasons in Philadelphia, veteran wing Kelly Oubre is heading into unrestricted free agency this offseason—and he's making it crystal clear where his heart lies.
Following the 76ers' elimination by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals, Oubre didn't shy away from questions about his future. While he's well aware of the business side of the NBA, he made one thing clear: he wants to stay in Philly, and he's not done yet.
"I love it here, of course, but this is not my first rodeo," Oubre said. "I've averaged 20 points in this league and still found myself barely getting any contracts. At the end of the day, man, I've learned so much."
The 29-year-old wing, known for his energetic play and defensive versatility, has become a fan favorite in Philadelphia. But he's also a seasoned veteran who understands that love for a city doesn't always translate into a contract offer.
"The game of basketball has reinvented itself to me through different lenses and different eyes throughout my tenure here. I'm forever appreciative for the opportunity to play for this city. I don't like how it ended, so I always say I like to finish what I start. This is a bit sour for me," Oubre added.
Oubre's message is clear: there's unfinished business in the City of Brotherly Love. But he's leaving the final decision to fate—and the front office.
"At the end of the day, it's already written," he said. "God already has it written up, and it's just going to follow through. I hope I did myself a good service by being more efficient, slowing down, and playing better overall basketball. And just continuing to grow as a human being and as a player. So we'll see where the chips fall."
For a player who has reinvented his game in Philadelphia, Oubre's future remains one of the offseason's most intriguing storylines. Whether he returns to the Wells Fargo Center or takes his talents elsewhere, one thing is certain: Kelly Oubre isn't walking away without a fight.
