A century from Glamorgan's Ben Kellaway against Warwickshire adorns an enthralling opening day of their County Championship match at Edgbaston.

A spectacular century from Glamorgan's Ben Kellaway highlighted an unforgettable opening day of the County Championship clash against Warwickshire at Edgbaston. The visitors finished on 341-8 after a rocky start that saw them slump to 0-2 within just five overs.

Kellaway, the 22-year-old rising star, played a masterful innings of 139 off 242 balls, peppering the boundary with 18 fours and a six. His partnership with captain Kiran Carlson, worth 194 runs in 52 overs, turned the tide after Glamorgan were put in to bat. However, Warwickshire struck back fiercely with the second new ball, claiming four wickets in just 25 deliveries through the impressive duo of Olly Hannon-Dalby (3-46) and Ethan Bamber (3-61).

The opening exchanges were nothing short of nightmarish for Glamorgan. Both openers departed for ducks—Asa Tribe flashing at a wide delivery from Hannon-Dalby, while Zain-ul-Hassan was unlucky to edge a perfect outswinger from Bamber. For a moment, with thousands of schoolchildren watching on, it looked like history might be made for all the wrong reasons. The projected score at that point? A staggering 0 all out after 25 overs.

But Kellaway and Carlson had other plans. Coming off a dominant 377-run victory over Yorkshire the previous week, Warwickshire were riding high on momentum. Yet the third-wicket pair weathered the storm, guiding Glamorgan to lunch at 91-2. Carlson reached his half-century from 95 balls, while Kellaway followed suit from 100 deliveries, showcasing patience and class.

As the ball softened, Warwickshire's seamers continued to apply pressure, with Hannon-Dalby and Beau Webster bowling five maidens in eight overs. The breakthrough finally came in the 56th over when spin was introduced. Carlson charged down the track to Dan Mousley, only to inside-edge onto his pad and loop the ball to slip.

Kellaway, however, remained unfazed. He continued his fluent strokeplay, none more elegant than an on-drive off Jordan Thompson that raced to the boundary. With the match beautifully poised, Glamorgan will look to build on their solid foundation when play resumes.
