Time, as they say, is a flat circle. Just ask New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, who for a second straight offseason finds himself the target of trade speculation.
According to a report by NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Boutte is “a name that has come up in trade talks” and that teams “believe he could be available for the right price.”
For Boutte and the Patriots, that is not an unfamiliar position. Heading into the 2025 draft, there already was speculation that he might be on the trade block. However, no move eventually materialized, and the young wideout responded to the rumors by posting his most productive season to date.
Coming off a year in which he played 55.5% of offensive snaps and caught 42 passes for 719 yards and seven touchdowns in a combined 18 regular season and playoff games, the spotlight again is on the 23-year-old. The circumstances have changed, though.
For starters, Boutte is entering the final year of his rookie deal. If the Patriots plan to move on anyway and want to get a return that might exceed a possible compensatory draft pick, the time to strike might be now.
On top of his contract situation, the wide receiver room as a whole continues to undergo a transformation under head coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. After already bringing in Kyle Williams, Mack Hollins and the since-released Stefon Diggs in 2025, the team also signed Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $68 million deal in free agency last month.
In addition, the Patriots are considered “likely” to acquire A.J. Brown via a trade with the Eagles in June. Brown is a classic X-receiver, meaning that he plays the same role that Boutte filled for the Patriots last season.
Add it all up, and you seemingly get the perfect environment for a trade. Of course, neither the Patriots nor Boutte himself have publicly addressed any plans for a move.
That said, Boutte did take to social media shortly after the initial report to post a photo of him seemingly on a beach in Miami:

The Patriots were among several NFL teams opening their voluntary offseason workout program on Monday, with players such as quarterback Drake Maye, tight end Hunter Henry and cornerback Christian Gonzalez all in attendance. Also returning for work on Monday were the Eagles, with the exception of the aforementioned A.J. Brown.
