When Katherine Legge straps into her race car on Memorial Day weekend, she won't just be chasing a checkered flag—she'll be chasing history. The 45-year-old driver is set to tackle one of motorsports' most grueling challenges: "The Double." That means racing in the Indianapolis 500 at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway, then sprinting to Charlotte Motor Speedway to compete in NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 all in the same day.
Think of it as running two marathons back-to-back, but inside a machine designed to push your body to its limits. The Indy 500 alone is a mental and physical marathon. The Coca-Cola 600 is NASCAR's longest race, often finishing well past midnight when most fans have already called it a night. Now imagine doing both in one day.
Legge will become the first woman—and the first foreign-born driver—to attempt this punishing 1,100-mile feat. Only five drivers have done it before her, and each one knows the journey matters as much as the finish line. This isn't just about crossing finish lines; it's about rewriting what's possible.
"Sometimes the ending isn't the point," Legge reflects. "Sometimes it's about the madness of the journey."
She'll be backed by e.l.f. Cosmetics, a brand that's been championing her since 2021. Patrick O'Keefe, the brand's chief, puts it simply: "We believe culture moves forward when more women are given the opportunity to own their stories, break barriers, and redefine what is possible."
For Legge, that means taking on two of America's biggest races in a single day—and proving that the longest day in racing is just another opportunity to make history.
