Legge's Memorial Day weekend schedule will test endurance and logistics as she prepares for two of racing's biggest events.

Katherine Legge is ready to trade sleep for history. The British racing veteran has finalized a last-minute deal to attempt "The Double" — racing in the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 on the same day — and her attitude is simple: "Why not?"

"It’s been a couple of years in the making," Legge said. "I knew that at some point in time it would be something that we looked at doing. But I didn’t anticipate it being this year."

At 45, Legge will drive the No. 11 Chevrolet for HMD Motorsports/AJ Foyt Racing in the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 24. Then, she’ll head straight to Charlotte Motor Speedway to compete in the Coca-Cola 600 for Live Fast Motorsports — NASCAR’s longest points race. It’s a grueling Memorial Day weekend schedule that will test endurance, logistics, and sheer willpower.

"We thought, 'Well, why not?'" Legge said. "It might be the only opportunity I get."

If she takes the green flag in both races, Legge would become only the sixth driver to accomplish that feat, joining legends like John Andretti, Robby Gordon, Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch, and Kyle Larson. It’s an exclusive club, and the challenge is immense. Drivers swap open-wheel IndyCars for heavier, stock-car machines, and the logistical nightmare of traveling from Indianapolis to Charlotte in between races is as demanding as the driving itself.

For fans of motorsports, this is a rare treat — a chance to see a driver push the limits of what’s possible in a single day. Whether you’re cheering from the stands or tracking her progress in your favorite racing gear, Legge’s double attempt is sure to be one of the most talked-about moments of the season.
