Kansas State football has secured a significant commitment for its future, landing a coveted linebacker from the heart of Sooner country. Colton McComb, a 6’2”, 210-pound standout from Memorial High School in Edmond, Oklahoma, announced his pledge to the Wildcats' 2027 recruiting class on April 4th.
While currently rated as a three-star prospect, McComb's trajectory is pointing upward. His impressive offer sheet suggests a fourth star could be in his future. He is ranked as the 32nd-best linebacker nationally and the 12th-best overall prospect in Oklahoma for his class, making this a notable win for K-State's recruiting efforts.
The Wildcats' victory is underscored by the competition they overcame. Beating out a scholarship offer from his home-state Oklahoma Sooners is a major recruiting coup. McComb also held offers from Big 12 rivals Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Kansas, highlighting his status as a regional priority.
On the field, McComb's athleticism is undeniable. As a junior, he was a two-way force, racking up 88 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss on defense while contributing 263 rushing yards, 4 touchdowns, and over 100 receiving yards on offense. He is expected to play both ways again as a senior but is being recruited exclusively as a linebacker for Kansas State.
His multi-sport background further showcases his explosive athletic profile. A track and field participant, he competes in the shot put, long jump, and sprints, and reportedly boasts a 4.59-second 40-yard dash time.
From a scouting perspective, his game draws comparisons to former Wildcat Austin Romaine. McComb possesses the ideal sideline-to-sideline range and physicality for a modern linebacker. He looks like a perfect fit for defensive coordinator Jordan Peterson's 4-2-5 scheme, with the ability to thump in the run game and the athleticism to cover in space. His offensive experience only enhances his defensive instincts, making him a promising foundational piece for the Wildcats' future defense.
