Kansas softball is going to be playing in the NCAA tournament this year. Here’s more on where the Jayhawks are heading, and who they’re playing.

After nearly a decade-long wait, Kansas softball is back on the national stage. The Jayhawks (35-19) have punched their ticket to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2015, marking a major milestone for the program under head coach Jennifer McFalls.

Kansas will head to the Norman Regional, hosted by powerhouse Oklahoma—one of four No. 1 seeds in the entire tournament. Joining them in the regional are Michigan and Binghamton. The Jayhawks will kick off their postseason run on Friday at 5 p.m. CT against the Wolverines, setting the stage for a compelling opener.

“I remember meeting with Travis Goff in the fall and telling him, I think we have a chance to be really good,” McFalls shared with reporters. “If we stay healthy, and all the things continue to come together like they were, then I thought we had a real chance to get ourselves into postseason. It’s paid off, and it’s been really exciting to see. More than anything, this team just needed some confidence and to realize they were really good.”

The Jayhawks enter the NCAA tournament on solid footing, having advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 Conference tournament. They knocked off UCF in the quarterfinals before falling to Texas Tech—a team that would later lose to Arizona State in the conference title game. That momentum has fans and players alike believing in a deeper run.

Of course, the road won’t be easy. The Norman Regional is stacked with talent, but if Kansas can navigate through, they’d advance to a Super Regional. Their potential next opponent would come from a group featuring No. 4 seed Oregon, No. 5 seed Mississippi State, Saint Mary’s, and Idaho State—a testament to the level of competition awaiting.

For a program that’s been building quietly, this is more than just a tournament appearance—it’s a statement. Whether you're a Jayhawks fan or just love a good underdog story, this team is one to watch as they step onto the biggest stage in college softball.
