In a move that has sent ripples through the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich's legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has signed a new contract—and few are more excited about it than 1. FC Köln's shot-stopper, Marvin Schwäbe.

"As someone who idolized Manuel Neuer as a kid, I'm thrilled," Schwäbe told journalist Hanna Reif. "Being able to face him for another season would be incredible. He's a legend, as they say these days—the GOAT."

The admiration runs deeper than just childhood fandom. Schwäbe recognizes Neuer's transformative impact on the goalkeeper position. "The league is lucky to be able to witness that for another year. He was a great role model; he changed the goalkeeping landscape. We trained a lot with our feet," Schwäbe explained. "That footballing ability became part of goalkeeping. Since Neuer, we know that a goalkeeper should be able to do more than just make saves."

Schwäbe also weighed in on the future of Bayern's goalkeeping throne, specifically regarding his former teammate Jonas Urbig, who is being groomed as Neuer's eventual successor. "He's already shown his potential with us, and that he can be and will become a very good goalkeeper," Schwäbe said. "He's matured considerably, having played almost 30 games in his first year and a half in Munich. That speaks for him and for his development. Another year playing alongside Neuer will do him a lot of good. Then he'll be ready to take over the position."

For fans of the beautiful game—and aspiring goalkeepers everywhere—Neuer's continued presence in the Bundesliga is a gift. Whether you're chasing saves or simply chasing a dream, having the best in the world still on the pitch is an inspiration we can all get behind.
