Juventus are making moves in the transfer market, and they've set their sights on one of Serie A's brightest young talents. According to Tuttosport, the Bianconeri have opened preliminary talks with Atalanta for 20-year-old centre-back Giorgio Scalvini—but it won't come cheap.
Atalanta have reportedly slapped a €40-45 million price tag on the Italian international, and they're not budging. For Juventus, this isn't just about adding defensive depth; it's about meeting UEFA's homegrown player requirements. The Bianconeri need at least eight locally trained players in their 25-man squad for European competitions, with a minimum of four coming through their own academy.
Currently sitting third in Serie A—just one point above fifth place—Juventus are looking to strengthen their core with young Italian talent. Scalvini fits that profile perfectly. He'd join the likes of Mattia Perin, Michele Di Gregorio, Federico Gatti, Manuel Locatelli, and Andrea Cambiaso as locally trained options, alongside academy products Fabio Miretti and Carlo Pinsoglio.
But Juventus aren't putting all their eggs in one basket. They're also monitoring Inter's Davide Frattesi, another homegrown talent, as well as Brentford defender Michael Kayode. However, the former Fiorentina man has already stated he's not interested in leaving the Premier League.
With Scalvini's price tag set high and competition for young Italian defenders fierce, the next few weeks will be crucial for Juventus as they look to build a squad that's both competitive and compliant. Will they meet Atalanta's demands, or will they pivot to other targets? One thing's for sure—the Bianconeri are serious about investing in the future.
