Juventus’ trip to Lecce started about as well as anybody could have imagined. Within 15 seconds of kickoff, Dusan Vlahovic found the back of the net, giving the Bianconeri a dream start. The next 90-something minutes, however, weren’t nearly as pretty. But when the final whistle blew, Juventus had secured three massive points with a 1-0 win over a Lecce side fighting for their Serie A lives.

Let’s be honest: this wasn’t the Juventus of old. The club that once dominated Italian football has, in recent years, turned the final month of each season into a nail-biting, grit-your-teeth affair. Every match feels like a must-win, and Saturday night at the Via Del Mare was no exception. Were Juve all that good? Not at all. But sometimes, in football, it’s not about how you play—it’s about getting the job done.

This wasn’t the kind of commanding performance we saw against Bologna or Atalanta a few weeks ago. In fact, after Vlahovic’s lightning-fast opener, the match became a tense, grind-it-out affair. Juve saw more goals chalked off by VAR than actually counted, and the game had the feel of one that could have gone very, very wrong. Lecce, sitting 17th and desperate for points, threw everything they had at the visitors, testing Juve’s resolve time and again.

But here’s the thing: it didn’t go wrong. In some ways, I’m not entirely sure how. This was exactly the kind of match Juventus have stumbled in multiple times over the last couple of seasons—against a relegation-threatened opponent, away from home, with everything on the line. Yet somehow, they held on. They defended, they battled, and they walked away with three points.

With three games left in the season, Juventus need three wins to guarantee Champions League qualification. It’s not the glamorous path they once walked, but in the 2026 version of this club, every point is precious. And on a night when style took a back seat to substance, Juve proved they still know how to win ugly.
